Spokn is the newest VoIP call service provider with the cheapest call rate in the VoIP market. This VoIP service is a product of Spokn Communications Pte Ltd. which is a Singapore-based Internet telephony service provider. The “VoIP for Bangladesh” blog is happy to bring you this news that Spokn is an Asian company is coming to Skype and GoogleVoice.

This new service allows you to call from your regular phones by dialing a local access line (available in more than 40 countries). With Spokn, you don’t have to pay anything at all to receive calls; this is no doubt a great offer in VoIP market. Spokn is a new generation service that is a true bridge between traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services offers the cheapest voip calls by use of landline, cell phone, PC, or SIP.

Click here to see how Spokn compare their services with Skype.

Let’s see what Spokn.com is offering us:
  • Cheapest VoIP calls
  • Spokn to Spokn calls are Free
  • Free incoming from regular phones (access number based service)
  • 20 seconds voice messaging service
  • Cheap incoming (direct) number at only $1/month from 8 different countries
  • Free Call Forking (through Spokn, you can receive call to any device)
  • Call Forwarding
  • Virtual calling card service with Call-through service
  • Call Back Service (save cell phone minutes)

Price, how cheap the Spokn is?

“Our pricing would be a fraction of what other operators charge for local calls.” This was Anil, CEO of Spokn response, when one of the media personnel at the conference asked him a question about Spokn’s call rates. He also added that users can acquire local phone number for $ 1 per month within 5 minutes on the web. If you can see the image at right, Spokn offers cheapest call rates for those destinations including India you can call 2 cents per minutes. But for VoIP call to Bangladesh Spokn is still costly comparing to other services. We hope that Spokn will reduce its rate for Bangladesh market considering its huge home and corporate market.

Feature Review

This service cannot compare to Localphone or Rebtel but they are trying to make stand with wonderful features like GoogleVoice provides, which is Call forking. This is new to the VoIP providers so “VoIP for Bangladesh” suggests you to take advantage of this feature. Call Forking allows for a call to be ringed at many phones. So you can pick the call up with whichever phone you want, either computer or landline or your cellphone. With call forking you can have all your Spokn enable phones to ring at once, a valuable feature for many people. It has a good call back service, so if your incoming is free then you should use this to save valuable phone minutes.

You can use Spokn from your PC, cellphone, landline, or an SIP softphone. You have complete freedom of choice.

Read the Spokn’s features in details:

Unlimited VoIP offers starting to appear in Africa

This is no doubt a good news for Bangladeshi leaving in Africa, specially members of Bangladesh Army working in UN peace keeping mission in Africa's country. Unlimited VoIP calling are going to be appeared in Africa.

VoIP has been banned across most of Africa for a long time, feared by the state-owned telcos as a way for alternative service providers to bypass them with international calls, eroding a very lucrative part of their business. At profit margins of several thousand percent in some cases, it is not surprising that unlicensed operators have sprung up all over the continent, risking huge fines, confiscation of their equipment and even jail terms. Now the country like South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana, as well as some of the more progressive North African markets nations Morocco, Algeria and Egypt are going to free it VoIP market.

Earlier we have reviewed a access number based VoIP service named "Free International Calls" from South Africa to call Bangladesh for free (click here to read the review). VoIP for Bangladesh is always in search of finding cheap and free VoIP calling offers/services for Bangladeshi leaving abroad, this is one of our effort.

VoIP business in Bangladesh, great opportunity with Increased Internet Bandwidth

Two more submarine cables in the pipeline to increase the country's Internet Bandwidth. This is no doubt a great opportunity for VoIP and other IT business.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has taken a move to connect Bangladesh with two more submarine cables through private sector initiative within one and a half years as internet-based services are often disrupted with the country's lone undersea cable. Entrepreneurs in the sector have long been demanding such backups.

Bangladesh was linked with a submarine cable in 2006 at a cost of $35.1 million. The SMW-4 cable has a capacity to handle 120 Gb bandwidth, of which the country now subscribes to 24.12 Gb.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd handles the lone undersea cable from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka. The country uses 23 percent of its capacity domestically.

With this two lines Bangladesh will get a strong backbone for its Internet bandwidth, that will open a huge window for VoIP service in Bangladesh and elsewhere as well IT Enabled Services (ITeS).

VoIP in Google Chrome OS

VoIP Apps is built in on newly released Google Chrome OS.

Google released their Google Chrome OS (Chromium OS Open Source Project) on 19 Nov '09. So naturally after getting the release news, people would try test it. As I could not test the OS right now for VoIP support, I looked for others blog who had the same idea and tested.

I found the article written by Tom Keating of TMC in his VoIP & Gadgets blog. He has tested Flaphone, a flash based web application, basically a SIP based apps. In his blog, he confirms that it works well. He also got news that TringMe works on the new OS (It already works on GoogleTalk). I guess there are many others and any Linux based VoIP apps should run without much trouble. Perhaps need to compile a new. But until then, we know at least there are two VoIP Apps that works.
